It’s Showmonth for BPP!
That’s how I think about April every year. “SHOWMONTH”.
For fifteen years, a community theatre group called ‘Bedford Park Players’ has been quietly building something extraordinary.
It began with one woman’s passion for musical theatre (and jealousy that her kids were doing it … what about us adults who want to dance, act and sing? Shout out to Kristi Herold!), and a gift to find the right leader to take the helm (shout out to the incomparable Sarina Condello)! This shared love for musical theatre has grown into a vibrant, living tapestry of creativity, collaboration, and generosity of spirt. Every production we bring to life is based on stories crafted by Sarina, music that lingers long after the curtain falls, and choreography that pulses with energy and heart (even when we miss dance steps). It’s not just theatre; it’s a collective expression of imagination, stitched together by people who believe in the magic of making something from nothing.
What makes it even more special is who we are. Our cast and crew come from every corner of life—surgeons, teachers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, business professionals—people who spend their days in vastly different worlds but come together under the same stage lights. Titles and professions fade the moment rehearsals begin. In their place, you find storytellers, dancers, singers, and dreamers. There’s something powerful about that transformation, about stepping into a space where creativity is the common language and everyone belongs.
And then there’s the joy—the kind that can’t be manufactured or replicated. It lives in the laughter during rehearsals and at our post rehearsal watering hole, in the shared triumph of finally nailing a difficult number, in the spontaneous moments that become inside jokes for years to come. These are the threads that weave us together, forming friendships that extend far beyond the stage. Over time, this group stops feeling like an activity and starts feeling like a family—one built on trust, encouragement, and a shared commitment to creating something meaningful.
What we create doesn’t end when the show does. Each performance becomes a moment in time that stays with us, settling into memory and, in some quiet way, becoming the very fabric of US. The stories we tell and the experiences we share leave a lasting imprint—woven into our very DNA.
That’s the true magic of this community: not just the productions themselves, but the way they shape us, connect us, and remind us of what’s possible when people come together in joy, play and spending time together.
